  • Devon retains it’s 100% record over Kernow

Devon hosted Kernow Region at the Pig on the Hill PC, Westward Ho! On Sunday 25th April. Despite starting the match in drizzle most of the games were played in dry especially those playing in the 2 lanes under the shelter of a dutch barn. These 2 counties have a long standing rivalry not just in Pétanque but in all sports. However Devon usually manages to hold the upper hand in this annual match.

The match was very finely balanced with rounds 1 and 2 going 4-3 each way and then Kernow took the lead with a 4-3 win in the 3rd round. Not to be outdone Devon fought back with a 5-2 win in round 4 and then consolidated it with a 4-3 in the final 5th round.

2 Devon teams managed an unbeaten day with 5 wins each and as the result was announced and the teams gathered for a photograph the sun decided to finally show itself.

The next meeting with these 2 regions competing is a 3 way match with the addition of Great Western at Nailsea on 18th July.

  • 3 Way Inter Regional Match held at ISCA PC on Sunday 21st March 2010

The first main event of the season for Devon, Kernow and Great Western Regions took place at ISCA Pétanque Club on Sunday 21st March.

This was an opportunity for all three regions to start the season off with a competition allowing as many players as possible to take part. The team fielded by each region were of different sizes so no real result was possible. The weather was dry and sunny to start with but as the sun disappeared the temperature dropped as the day went on.

Devon fielded 6 teams, Kernow 4 and Great Western 7 teams. One combined team was made up with players from Devon and Kernow to even up the numbers to avoid byes and allow as much play as possible.

    5 timed rounds of 1 hour proceeded and the results region by region were;

    DEVON REGION
    21.5 (1 drawn game)

    KERNOW REGION
    18

    GREAT WESTERN REGION
    4.5(1 drawn game)

    COMBINED TEAM
    4

    Individual results were:

    1st     Kernow 2 - 5 wins (+48)

    2nd    Devon 3 - 5 wins (+35)

    3rd     Devon 2 - 4 wins (+32)

    4th     Kernow 3 - 4 wins (+29)
